President Monson has Dementia?!

At least, that was the rumor (I heard it could be Alzheimers, too). I looked up information on it and only ran into some anti-LDS blogs, but nothing really from a credible source, besides a couple pro-LDS blogs quoting the anti-LDS blogs. So I put on my investigator hat and went to work…

I asked a couple people “in-the-know” and they hadn’t heard anything, so I grabbed my shovel and dug a little deeper…

..and by “shovel” I mean my TV, and by “dug” I mean I watched conference on it.

Did you watch conference? I think the only thing that would indicate trouble in President Monson brainland is that he didn’t quote a song or poem this time. Other than that, he seared my soul with the scorching heat of awesome inspiration and subtle revelation that, whether or not there is any grain of truth to the rumors, it was apparent to me that God is upholding His prophet and my life is better for hearing him.

Unless President Monson is behind the pulpit singing scat and using the mic as a gear shifter, I’m not giving heed to any more stupid rumors.

President Monson is awesome! I loved his talks since I was a little kid and I still look forward to hearing from him.

I haven’t heard this rumor. Are your sure you didn’t hear it was me getting dementia? I would totally believe that rumor! 😉

I happened to come cross your site and thought I would way in on the Monson topic. My mission President works with the First Presidency and it’s common knowledge that Pres. Monson does suffer from short term memoryloss. Pres. Monson is on meds and has not been to a First Presidency meeting in a year. This is not new news most everyone who works at church headquarters knows about this. I agree he was lucid enough to be at conferance. The Presidents Counselor’s and twelve are running the affairs of the church. The new announcement has been in works for about two years, great policy change.

This is still friend of a friend stuff. There needs to be a first hand account with specific details to hold more weight than rumor.

He came and spoke in Idaho and unfortunately he told the same story three times in the same talk 🙁 It was kind of awkward but that’s the reality of aging. We taught a less active member who would tell the same story every time we came over and sometimes multiple times in the same visit. He still was very much himself but age had taken it’s toll. President Benson also suffered from dementia, this doesn’t make the church any less true.

I am 68 years old. I have some short term memory loss, as do many my age. President Monson is much older. Give him a break!

I love our prophet!!!! At his age, he is entitled. I guarantee, I have a forgetful mind at 70 years. He seems quite fine and frankly, I don’t care one way or the other. He is our prophet dear. Maybe he is staying home for other reasons then forgetfulness. It doesn’t matter. The church is in capable hands and is true.

We faithfull members of the Church let us all pray for our beloved prophet, President Monson. That Heavenly Father will restore his health–so that he will be able to continue to deliver those awsome and mooving sermonds from the pulpit. ELOHIM PLEASE BLESS OUR BELOVED PROPHET. AMEN

I believe this rumor may have been started after the Boise temple re-dedication. I think there were four sessions, and I attended the first. However, I heard that during the fourth session, after President Monson had finished his talk, he paused and visibly relaxed, then started telling some stories that were not really related to the dedication. He told the stories three or four times before finishing and sitting down.

One of my professors was at that session, and he said that he thinks it is just something normal that happens when older people get tired or worn out, not an indicator or dementia or Alzheimer’s. After a full day of dedications, I’d be tired too!

Actually I just noticed that this topic was started before the re-dedication, so apparently that was not when the rumor started… but still, the re-dedication did help continue the rumor.

President Monson looked so well at Conference this fall 2013! He looked tired, a bit overweight, and had a gray ash color tone to his skin for the Re-dedication of the Boise Temple. He was wearing a suit that was way big and he didn’t look well. This Sunday, he looked AWESOME! His color was back. His suit fit his weight loss, and he looked like the man/prophet I knew. Any way he comes, I love him, the Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is true.
